Samobor’s Calvary

The Samobor’s Calvary with 13 stations of the Way of the Cross is located on the slope between the chapels of Saint Ana and Saint Juraj. It was erected in 1933, on the 1900th anniversary of the salvation by Jesus Christ, at the initiative of Olga Leibenfrost from Zagreb.

The Calvary is made of a great crucifix with two crosses. The body was made by Elekt Maruzi from Zagreb, and the crosses were made by the inhabitants of Domaslovec. When they heard the Calvary is being built, the people of Samobor expressed their wish to also make the Way of the Cross in the memory of the 1900th anniversary of Jesus' death on the cross. The stations, 13 of them were made of artificial stone by Rudolf Betler and have recently been restored to safely navigate through the forest in search of spiritual peace.
