Every Mother’s Day, the centre of Samobor turns, for a couple of minutes, into a flowery dancing meadow in the honour of all mothers. Organized by the Folklore Society “Mladost”, this “flower promenade” gathers around 700 children from local kindergartens and schools who dance together to regional traditional tunes in fancy costumes made by themselves.
The first manifestation dates way back to 1956 when it was organized for the first time, only to be revived in the last couple of years as an addition in preserving musical and dancing traditions of the area, but also as encouragement of children’s creativity and activities.
On Mother’s Day, the children head to the King Tomislav Square in a big procession from three different directions and then perform a synchronized 10-minute programme containing children songs and dances from our history. All followed by the caring eyes for whom the spectacle is organized, but also for all the others who appreciate such magnificent images.
