In their mission to revive old traditions, the town’s Society of Engineers and Technicians decided to remind their fellow citizens of the fact that at the beginning of the 20th century Samobor had its meteorological pillar. It was located near the parish church of Saint Anastasia on the place of the Statue of the Mother of God as a memory of those that died in the First World War.
It was decided that a new location would be chosen on the Matica hrvatska Square where the new meteorological pillar was placed in 2008. It is 3.5 metres high and contains the devices for measuring temperature, pressure and humidity, an apparatus for short-term weather forecast, a clock and an UV radiation indicator.
