Balagović’s Palace

The largest park in Samobor’s area with a palace.

Balagović’s Palace

This sight belongs to the second category of listed heritage and is the largest park in Samobor’s area with a palace. It used to be a noblemen’s manor, but today it is an educational institution, the Centre for the Education of Youth Lug.

The palace is first mentioned at the beginning of the 17th century when Kristofor Balagović received the estate from Tomo Erdody. There had already been a wooden manor at the location and during time two smaller manors were built in the Baroque style on the site of that wooden one. The Balagović family was succeeded by the Kulmer family that bought the estate in 1805 and arranged the park, the lake and the palace in the way that it looks today. The manor’s façade was made in the Classicism style, and the interior still holds a part of the original equipment.
