Saint Cross’s Chapel

One more Samobor’s gem, not very well known outside the borders of the town, but extremely valuable, is located in Otruševec, on a hill in the old part of the cemetery. It was first mentioned in this sense in 1642, but it is basically a construction from the Middle Ages which has been extended and restructured many times. Thanks to that, various levels of construction have created extremely picturesque, atypical chapel bursting with Gothic elements, built in stone with floor tiles, while the inventory dates from the 18th and 19th century. It is interesting to mention that there was a smaller Roman settlement on that area, and that recently illusionist wall paintings have been discovered which carry the Crusade motives. The chapel is presently being renovated and the most recent addition are new oak doors.
