Sopot Waterfall

One of the highest waterfalls in Croatia can be found in the Žumberak hill range.

Sopot Waterfall

When you think you know everything about Samobor and its attractions, there is a hidden surprise waiting. For instance, it is not very well known that one of the highest waterfalls in Croatia can be found in the Žumberak hill range. Just 3 kilometres northeast of the village of Sošice you can find the Sopot waterfall, located on one of the tributary streams of the Kupčina River.

It is located on fascinating 700 metres above sea level, and it is divided by cascades into three parts with a total height of 40 metres down which the water falls on the meadow in the bottom. Still, before falling to the ground, it uses its power to move the water mill placed below the waterfall, creating an image not many would imagine in the middle of a magical forest. Bear in mind that the path to the waterfall is somewhat steep, and the hikers’ route leads further to the mountain hut on Vodice and to Sveta Gera.
