“Self-Portrait as an Intimate Time Machine”

The exhibition concept: "Self-Portrait as an Intimate Time Machine"

If we all agree on the fact that the reality is becoming more and more difficult and demanding psycho-emotionally, this condition expression may open up the possibilities to use our imagination and travel to different spaces, different times, and different cultural frames.  Apart from the classic psychological shading of their own moods and conditions through self-portraits, an artist thus embraces this restorative gesture to be teleported to another century, civilisation, and space where they feel they could be at their best. This new face and attire (or an old one, depending on our memories and our personal beliefs) is not a disguise, but an attempt to recognise a part of one’s personality which has been forgotten, suppressed, i.e., which is not visible “on the outside”. Which clothes, culture, or era do we best see ourselves in? Which century or millennium? Which social caste? Would we be in the middle of a city, a village at the end of the world, a desert, mountains, a castle, a palace, a convent, or a spaceship and a space station? What used to be our occupation, or what do yearn for in our dreams? Have we lost a part of ourselves somewhere in the past, or do we see our fulfilment only in the future of human civilisation, near or distant? Do you feel „out of place” here? Are we happier when we remember the past or return to the past, or do we yearn for the future, whatever the future should be? The possibilities of “positioning” oneself in one’s new face seem to be innumerable.

 

Conditions for the authors applying to participate at the 6^th International Self-Portrait Triennial:

• A maximum of 3 works created between 2022 and 2024 may be submitted
•  The works to be submitted include drawings, graphics, photos, collages, sculptures, objects, installations, videos, etc.
• All techniques and materials are permitted, and with objects and installations, synergistic correlations between different media and materials may be applied
• Both the artists who are members of the Academy and amateur artists may apply
• Work dimensions:

Two-dimensional works with a maximum size of up to 80 cm (the expert jury reserves the right to select a certain work of art if it is submitted as a whole - a diptych, a triptych, and so on)

Three-dimensional works and installations – not limited

Video and audio with the duration of up to 2 minutes

 

Application:

• The invitation and the application form are to be found at the Prica Gallery Website: https://www.samobor.hr/galerija-prica
• The works are to be submitted via the Application Form (at the bottom of the webpage): https://www.samobor.hr/galerija-prica/poziv-za-6-medjunarodni-trijenale-autoportreta-n9722  
• Electronic reproductions of the submitted works are to be enclosed with the application, the quality and the resolution of which is print-ready (300 dpi, jpg or tif formats)
• Sculptures and installations are to be shot from at least 3 different angles
• Please, enclose the plan or the instructions of how your work should be set up (especially if it is an installation), if necessary, so your artistic concept can be presented accordingly

Note: By applying for the participation at the exhibition the author confirms their consent for the submitted material and the data related to the author (address, phone number, e-mail, web) to be used by POU Samobor for the promotion of the 6^th International Self-Portrait Triennial (catalogue, invitation, the web, marketing). The submitted material will not be used for any other purpose. 

The application materials sent by post or delivered personally will not be returned by Prica Gallery, POU Samobor.

 

Applications will be accepted till Friday, 30^th August 2024.

 

Jury:

• Members of the selection jury:

  Anita Ruso, PhD
• Number of works to be submitted to the jury: up to 3
• Works will be juried via the reproductions enclosed with the application form
• The quality and the resolution of the reproductions must be print-ready
• Authors will be notified about the outcomes of the jury decisions concerning the selected works
• The artists chosen by the jury for the exhibition at the 6^th International Self-Portrait Triennial are obligated to pay a participation fee of 10 €
• The costs of the delivery and the collection of the works after the exhibition is to be covered by the artists
• Each participating artist will be given a copy of the printed catalogue.

• Prica Gallery, POU Samobor, and Prica Gallery Small Hall (ground floor and 1^st floor)
• During the exhibition, artists cannot withdraw their works without the consent by Prica Gallery

Prica Gallery Prize, POU Samobor

Two prizes will be awarded by the decision of the expert jury, i.e., a solo exhibition organised by Prica Gallery, POU Samobor
Names of the awarded artists will be published at the official website of the Gallery followed by the publication in the media

 

Work collected by the artists: 11/12/2024 – 20/12/ 2024

• works are to be collected personally at Prica Gallery opening times
  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am – 2pm
  Friday 1pm – 7pm
  Saturday, Sunday 10am – 5pm
• At the author’s request works will be sent by the post
  The costs of such return are to be covered by the artist.
